people say things like “You ought to be grateful!” or use deterrence by way of telling you how you aren’t aware of how lucky you are, are the ones that have never taken initiative in their lives. These people are soul-dead consumers. They let life happen to them. Autonomy and youth is wasted on these people. They’ve failed to take initiative and are bitter so they tell you that you’re no better than they are because it allows them to sleep at night without worries. Beware of these people. Next time someone tells you how lucky you are, take a walk in the opposite direction and don’t look back. Never look back.
Edit: If you’re astute then you’ll find that this particular psychological structure or blueprint of Thought will find it’s match in many situations. It’s a recurring pattern with humans. We love to tell others what to do for selfish reasons. It’s always selfish.
A wise man once said, “The only thing you can do to change the world for the better is to improve yourself.”
